MAY IS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Older adults are a growing and increasingly vital part of our country. The contributions they make to our communities are varied, deeply rooted, and include influential roles in the nation's economy, politics, and the arts. One of the most important issues that will face older adults, and eventually all of us is Fall Prevention....Falls are the number one reason older adults lose their independence.
Are you handy? The Heart of Ida needs your help!!

Why not put those skills to good use helping seniors stay safe and independent in their own homes. Repairs are minor and usually take less than an hour to complete. All that is needed is your tools, talent, and you!

One third of Americans aged 65 + falls each year.
Every 13 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 20 minutes an older adult dies from a fall.

The bathroom is where most adults fall, but it does not have to be that way.
Falling is not an inevitable result of aging. Through practical lifestyle adjustments and evidence-based prevention programs like those that The Heart of Ida offers, the number of falls among seniors can be substantially reduced.
