One in four Americans is over the age of 60, nearly 25% of these seniors live alone, and a full half of these solo seniors lack the income to pay for their basic needs. That’s millions of older adults experiencing drastic food and housing insecurity. In addition, low-income seniors are at extreme risk of isolation, which can result in diminished physical and mental health. Many low-income seniors are without the friends and family many of us rely on for support and companionship and have been excluded from the digital rise that might enable broader connection. The Heart of Ida is committed to helping this vulnerable population stay healthy, cared for, and connected to their community.
