Daily mail and phone calls once provided a source of personal connection for many seniors, but the rise of the digital age has led to a decrease in physical letters and personal phone calls. This can be especially isolating for the many senior citizens who have not joined the digital revolution. The Heart of Ida provides one-on-one technology support, often connecting seniors with tech-savvy CSULB interns to set up and navigate their Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, and smart phones. The Heart of Ida team is also available to help seniors with common issues like connecting to the internet, using email, basic online applications and more. Support is available during Digital Inclusion Tech Days and drop-in office hours at The Heart of Ida’s office in the Long Beach Senior Center.

Heart of Ida is partnered with NCOA to provide self-paced courses that include Internet Basics, Email Basics, Cybersecurity Basics, and Android Mobile Device Basics. These courses are designed to guide older adults through modules to help build confidence in using technology.
Heart of Ida Selected to Enhance Digital Literacy Among Older Adults Through New National Initiative
Heart of Ida is excited to announce its participation in a new nationwide effort to improve digital literacy among older adults. This initiative, led by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) in collaboration with AT&T, seeks to empower older adults with the essential skills needed to navigate today’s increasingly digital world.
As one of only 50 organizations selected nationwide, Heart of Ida will offer drop-in office hours at the Long Beach Senior Center, where seniors can receive one-on-one assistance with their technology questions.
The goal of this program is to ensure that older adults have access to the knowledge and resources they need to stay connected, informed, and safe while using the Internet. Workshops and support will be available in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for all participants.
